Earn Green‑Building Points with Water‑Smart Turf

The National Green Building Standard (NGBS) is a leading residential green‑building rating system. TWCA‑qualified turfgrass is recognized within the water‑efficiency category, allowing projects to earn points toward certification.

NGBS & TWCA

What is NGBS?

NGBS certification, administered by Home Innovation Research Labs, rates projects across six categories: site design, resource efficiency, water efficiency, energy efficiency, indoor environmental quality, and operations/maintenance.

How TWCA Is Involved

TWCA is the only turf evaluation program explicitly named in NGBS. Using TWCA‑qualified turf can earn up to nine points toward certification. Products must contain at least 70% TWCA Qualified varieties.

Benefits & Impact

  • Earn up to nine NGBS points.
  • Case study: Sunbeam development in Hailey, Idaho used TWCA turf and achieved Emerald certification.
  • Improved water efficiency and market recognition.

How It Works / Tools & Resources

  1. Register projects with Home Innovation Research Labs.
  2. Plan landscapes with TWCA‑qualified turf and use EPA water budgeting.
  3. Undergo two inspections for certification verification.
