Find Your TWCA!
TWCA is for everyone, but how can everyone find it? The TWCA Members map highlights TWCA members nearest you. Look for the seed and sod icons to find the vendor you need. Be forewarned though, sod vendors ALSO carry seed! So, if you are looking for seed, don't be afraid to reach out to sod vendors too!

Cooperate in the 2024 Perennial Ryegrass Trial
|
Use the form shared here to submit your RFI before September 15th 5pm Pacific to be considered. The 2024 Perennial Ryegrass is planned to run at six (6) locations across North America. The trial will be packaged and distributed to cooperators in August of 2024 for timely establishment. Trialing is anticipated to run three (3) years across locations. Trialing is governed by the TWCA cooperator manual. TWCA supplies cooperators with standardized cameras. Cameras are returned to TWCA annually for callibration and inspection. Cooperators receive a fresh set of light bulbs for the lightbox annually ensuring standard photography and standard lighting.
Cooperators are expected to submit data via Teams using TWCA supplied formats. This aides in rapid accurate analysis of data. Cooperators participate in two of three (2/3) annual cooperator calls. The first cooperator call of the year is held in February with calls recurring once every four (4) months for the duration of the trial |
Cooperator |
Cooperators are individuals or organizations holding no commercial interest in the turf or live goods trade.
Critical Cooperators are essential to trial, qualify, and promote the use of drought tolerant turfgrasses. Government and university collaborations are central to TWCA. These memberships provide valuable access and opportunities for larger projects. Memberships are gratis.
Individuals serve as conservation ambassadors using TWCA tools to make every drop count |

Strong Cooperators Yield Strong Results
TWCA's blend of public and private researchers at locations across North America consistently returns quality research and usable results. Utilizing multi-year, multi-site trialing across a broad geographic range allows TWCA Cooperators to effectively eliminate confounding factors from the trial results. This results in a high measure of confidence that the results in trialing indicate drought tolerance in the plants and are not the result of some other variable. |

Research Review Committee
Integrity and Oversight
TWCA's Research Review Board provides third party peer review of data collected by cooperators across North America. Through this process they ensure the quality and integrity of the trial process and make qualifications based solely on the trial results. The Research Review Committee plays a key role in identifying new cooperators, determining trial locations, and creating and updating the TWCA Cooperators Manual. |
Turfgrass Water Conservation Alliance (TWCA) created the Data Evaluation and Statistical Analyst (DESA) position. Filling this position for the inaugural role is Tyler Carr, graduate student at University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
“This position is the confluence of TWCA’s efforts to provide, sound scientific trialing to the turf community while elevating the next generation of scientists,” says Jack Karlin, Program Administrator of TWCA. Natural Transition Despite this being the inaugural position, Carr, is no stranger to TWCA. His prior experience with TWCA came at University of Arkansas with Dr. Doug Karcher, Chair of The Ohio State University College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES) Department of Horticulture and Crop Science (formerly of University of Arkansas) conducting lysimeter testing on turfgrasses determining the impact of soil texture on volumetric water demand. This work served as a keystone in developing TWCA’s innovative Water Calculator (turfgrasswaterconservationalliance.org). Tyler’s nomination to this position came from Dr. Karcher. “I knew I wanted to pass this responsibility to someone who was qualified, experienced, and capable,” says Karcher. “Tyler is exactly the right guy for this.” |
